Touched
No matter how we build
Our highways, homes, or gardens,
The sun will shine on them,
The rain will fall on them,
The wind will blow over them,
And birds, bees, and flies,
Will rest in them.
We build in defiance of nature,
To lord over and master it,
Only to have nature touch
Everything we have built.
Our highways, homes, or gardens,
The sun will shine on them,
The rain will fall on them,
The wind will blow over them,
And birds, bees, and flies,
Will rest in them.
We build in defiance of nature,
To lord over and master it,
Only to have nature touch
Everything we have built.

My Praise for Small Things
I praise the small things,
that blanket the Earth,
with living green,
and make it home,
for rest of us...
that blanket the Earth,
with living green,
and make it home,
for rest of us...

A Pilgrimage
I kneel on this granite rock,
remembering a book I read,
words that moved me,
to where I am today,
in love with nature,
in love with all life,
kneeling on this granite rock.
(a tribute to One Day On Beetle Rock by Sally Carrighar)

The Fire in the Sky
We rest beneath the fire in the sky,
Beneath the ocean of air and water,
Under the ocean rising in the sun,
We live beneath the drama of clouds.
And a political statement:
Beneath the ocean of air and water,
Under the ocean rising in the sun,
We live beneath the drama of clouds.
And a political statement:

Where the Road is Going
I wonder where this road is going,
I can't see what's ahead,
Sometimes, I'm not sure where I am,
But I keep going on ahead.
And sometimes I don't care where I am,
And I don't care what's ahead,
I won't be sitting here,
I will keep going on ahead.
I can't see what's ahead,
Sometimes, I'm not sure where I am,
But I keep going on ahead.
And sometimes I don't care where I am,
And I don't care what's ahead,
I won't be sitting here,
I will keep going on ahead.

I Saw It!
I watched the Mercury Transit this morning.
I am intrigued by these events that would go unnoticed, and may have little or no effect on us, but are amazing all the same.
Transits, eclipses, sunspots,
comets, and asteroids,
the orbit of Neptune,
black holes at the center of the galaxy,
the tides, the weather, lightning strikes,
migrating whales, songbirds, and butterflies,
the auroras,
sequoia seeds dropping to the ground,
cicadas burrowing out the soil...
The list goes on and on.

From the Book of Nature
1. The laws of nature are absolute, and cannot be violated. There is no crime in nature.
2. The universe is anthropic, providing all the essentials for intelligent life; but it is also indifferent to that life.
3. Life is the dance of water and carbon.
4. Life depends on the Sun, and then killing and eating others.
5. Nature has a vast "ghost range." Most life is hidden, and we will never know everything.
